Time for apple pie!
5 years ago we put 350 trees in the ground. These last couple weeks we harvested enough apples to sell! It's been a long time coming and these trees are still growing but it's fun to finally be able to share them with you and your families!
All of our farm produce is being sold through our store, Jack's Petrol & Provisions just down the road from our farm. For now all the apples are sold in 1/2 peck bags. We have 18 trees per variety and 30+ varieties. Some of the trees didn't set much this year and others did really well, so we won't have an endless supply of any one variety at this point. This season all apples are no spray and will always be organically grown.
We will keep our facebook page updated with what apple offerings we have rather than bombard your inbox with lots of emails - make sure to follow us there! Feel free to call the store to see what's in stock before you make a trip @ 423-772-3768.
Thank you for supporting our small business & farm!
For those of you who helped us plant our orchard 5 years ago we are SO THANKFUL and are still honoring the 10% off fresh picked apples discount. Show your discount card at the register.
After quite a long silence we are back in touch to share with you what we've been up to. 2019 looks bright for Roan Highlands Farm. With two little farmers to raise and 26 acres to maintain we are shifting our farms focus just a little. We are no longer offering pick -your- own on the farm. However we do have another way for your to get the yummy summer berries and jam you have grown to love!
The next step in our vision of rural revitalization and community building has been to re-open a beloved local country store and rebrand it as Jack's Petrol & Provisions, located just above the State Park on your way up the mountain. Jack Barnett opened the store in 1956, and we are proud to be taking this Roan Mountain institution into the future.
This store is just down the road from our farm. You can expect to find our fresh picked raspberries and old fashioned jam there this summer. Among other offerings, Jack's will serve as our farm store, giving you convenient access to our farm produce and products throughout the season. Visit our website to order pre-picked berries or pick some up down at Jack's.
Jack's already offers some important staples - gourmet fresh made coffee, locally produced goods, hot food service, camping supplies and non ethanol fuel. And now RHF produce! We will be offering our apples down there in the fall.
This years apples have set really well! We are looking forward to offering you organic apples sold by the pound or bushel in the fall. Be on the look out for an order form coming in the next couple months.
Emmie joined our family last August and as many of you know two kids is a lot harder than just one. She is very adventurous, loves her big brother and is a ray of sunshine on any given day. Being outside and bath time are two of her favorite things, which is great because she loves to play in the dirt!
